History of the social welfare activities of the Catholic Church in the East and West Nimar may be traced back to 1880s with the arrival of Franciscan Missionaries.  Along with the faith formation of the people, empowering the weak and uplifting the marginalized were given great importance. For the better organization of the farmers and to improve the agriculture sector, a society named Khrishi Kalyan Kendre was founded in 1964. With the erection of the Diocese of Khandwa in February 1977, the developmental activities were monitored and supervised through ‘Social Welfare Centre’. Later, on 20th December 1994 a registered society – Khandwa Diocesan Social Services (KDSS) was founded to meet the needs of the time and to adopt a professional approach to socio-developmental activities of the Diocese.

In the year 2019, KDSS celebrated its Silver Jubilee and commemorated the 25 years of committed services in the society, in changing the lives of the poor and marginalised, Scheduled Tribal and Scheduled Caste communities in the region.
