SACRED HEART OF JESUS
The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 11th June reminds us of the unconditional love of Jesus for all people. As disciples of Jesus, we deeply wish to follow the way of love Jesus has shown to us. Through our devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, may our hearts be filled with kindness, goodness, humility, and love.
It was on the feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus in 2009, our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI dedicated the year June 2009 – June 2010 for the priests. Because he realized that the priests must strive to rededicate themselves with greater commitment in this advanced technological world. Indeed, the priests occupy an honorable and privileged position in the Church but they need peoples’ prayers to fulfill their responsibilities faithfully. The priests must seriously reflect on their priesthood regularly and joyfully live their priesthood for the people. The year of priests offered plenty of opportunities to attend retreats, seminars, renewal courses, and quite a lot of reading materials.
Fr. George Olivera presents the priest as a wounded healer in the New Leader November issue 2009. The priest is ‘the image of God,’ another Christ, anointed by the Spirit, Eucharistic person, man for others, and child of Mary etc. Fr. Abraham Kadaplackel SDB proposes a RBPP programme for every priest in the New Leader April issue 2010. He insists that every priest must Read the Bible, Believe in the Word of God, Preach the Good News and Practise.
No one would have got so much attention and prayers other than the priests during the years of priests. The priests received more and more appreciation, encouragement, and support from all people. We thank our Holy Father for declaring the year of priests and encouraging us to walk in the path of holiness. We thank all our people and religious who made the year so special and enriching for the priests.
In order to conclude the year of priests officially, the youth of our diocese will honor the priests on 20th June 2010 with the solemn Eucharistic Celebration at 5.30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Khandwa. We thank the Director of Youth Commission, Fr. John Victor and his team who have taken up the organization of the Eucharistic Celebration and the Cultural programme. All the priests and religious are invited to join the concluding ceremony of the year of priests.

Hearty Thanks & Welcome
This is the season for some priests and religious to assume their responsibilities and join new communities to continue the ministries entrusted to them. I express my sincere thanks to all our priests and religious who have humbly accepted the transfers and gracefully taken up their new appointments. We gratefully remember all those religious who have been working in our diocese so long and are moving out to other dioceses to offer their service now. We extend our good wishes and God’s abundant blessings on them. We joyfully welcome the religious who are joining the diocese to strengthen our service to the people of Khandwa diocese. We wish and pray that they may have pleasant and enriching experiences in Khandwa diocese.
We welcome Deacons Sunder Uthiriaraj and Stephen Xavier of Precious Blood Missionaries (CPPS) to offer their service to Khandwa diocese. They have been assigned to Chiklia and Bahadarpura respectively for their diaconate ministry.

After quite a hard work, finally St. Mary's Hr. S. School at Barwa has been affiliated with CBSE since March 2010. I congratulate Sr. Stella, the principal and Rev. Fr. Mathew T C, the Manager and all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.

Retreat for Priests
All the priests of our diocese are requested to attend the retreat from 14th evening of November till 19th noon of November 2010. Rev. Fr. Kurian Karickal MSFS will guide us and the retreat will be at Divyodaya Pastoral Centre, Khandwa
Pray for the Sick
Fr. Lawrence Monteiro underwent surgery in Mangalore and Fr. Joseph Vaipana had an antioplasty at Ernakulam. They are in good spirit. We are grateful to their dear ones who are taking good care of them. Kindly pray for their speedy recovery.

We extend our hearty Congratulations to Fr. Jaison Paukkatt who received his ordination on 5th May 2010. The Archbishop of Nagpur Most Rev. Abraham Viruthakulangara ordained him and I had the privilege of participating in that solemn ordination celebration.
A newly built grotto "Pieta"
Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Jimmy Vayalil and with the contribution of the parishioners a beautiful grotto "Pieta" has been built at St.Mary's Cathedral Campus. The grotto 'Pieta' was inaugurated and blessed by Most Rev. A.A.S. Durairaj, the bishop of the khandwa diocese on June 6, 2010. We pray that this grotto may increase our devotion and be one day raised to the status of a shrine.
